There is a link between Charles F. Parham and Kansas City. Parham preached his first sermon on tongues as evidence of baptism of Holy Spirit on January 21, 1901 in Kansas City at Bethel Chapel at 1675 Madison.
"On January 21, 1901, Parham preached the first sermon dedicated to the sole experience of the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues." God's Generals: Why They Succeeded & Why Some Failed p. 120. I tried to put a link to the Kansas City Journal for January 22, 1901 which is a recounting of this sermon. Charles F. Parham later taught William Seymour in Houston who became a catalyst for the Azusa Street Revival which is claimed as the start of the Pentecostal movement (why I called Parham a "grandfather" for the Pentecostal Movement.
(won't let me put link....do a search on Parham, KC sermon, KC Journal, etc.)
My wife and I tried to find the above location. We came close, but we could not tell where the church stood. It is interesting that later a spiritualist church moved into the location--spiritual vacuum from persons not accepting this "truth" in running with it the way Seymour and persons coming to Los Angeles and Azusa Street. This is fairly close to new Kauffman Center for Performing Arts (where they had the Independence Messiah Choir and Messiah performance)-westernmost part of KC, MO. I find this interesting to go along with IHOP-KC and World Revival Church to the south, Restoration Movement denomination HQ to east in Independence, Harvest Church and more to north.
