"I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me. To a nation that did not call on my name, I said, "Here am I, here am I." All day long I have held out my hands to an obstinate people, who walk in ways not good, pursuing their own imaginations…" Isaiah 65:1-2 NIV
"I was ready to be sought out by those who did not ask, to be found by those who did not seek me. I said, "Here I am, here I am", to a nation that did not call on my name. I held out my hands all day long to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own devices…" Isaiah 65:1-2 NRSV
"I am found of them who seek after me, I give unto all them that ask of me; I am not found of them that sought me not, or that inquireth not after me. I said unto my servant, Behold, me. Look upon me; I will send you unto a nation that is not called after my name, for I have spread out my hands all the day to a people who walketh not in my ways, and their works are evil and not good, and they walk after their own thoughts…" Isaiah 1-2 IV
For two days now I have been pondering a mystery here. I had a dream where the Lord opened before me the words of Isaiah. Yet while I knew it was from the last three chapters, I was not shown the exact chapter or even allowed to read it clearly. But what I saw clearly was that ONE word changed the entire meaning of the passage. One word made the scripture message false.
But then, I wasn't even shown the one word "clearly" but I knew the definition to denote Gods fruitage upon man. For two days now I have read the last three chapters in every bible edition I have trying to find that one word to no avail. But then, it was this verse that stood out because it was situated on the page like in the dream and one word changes the meaning of the passage.
It is such a simple message, yet extremely profound in what is offered. Does Jesus reveal himself to those who DO NOT ask or only to those who DO ask? All the verses teach that he holds out his hands all day long to those who do not call his name, who do not walk in his ways, and who are rebellious and obstinate people. So if he holds out his hand all day long, does he then reveal himself (or at least his outstretched hands) to those who do not ask for it?
One verse says that Jesus reveals himself to those who do not ask for him…the other says he is "ready" to be sought out by those who do not ask for him…the last says he is only found by those who ask for him. This is NOT to prove one bible version correct or incorrect…it is a mystery the Lord gave me to ponder about himself and what I believe him to be really like.
Which one do you think more represents the Jesus you know from personal experience and from the other scriptural accounts?
