I will try to post tips from time to time, as I come across information that may be handy. Feel free to ask any questions, and I will try my best to answer. Send your questions to hopeofzion@hotmail.com, and I will post the answer here if it is information that is beneficial for others to know.
Why create an account with ezboard?
- there are certain benefits from registering.
1. You can't post or participate here unless you do.
2. You can see what Forums and Message Threads have
new messages, and which ones don't.
3. It's free.
Instructions on How to Register an Account
How do I see what forums and message threads have new messages in them?
1. You must be a registered user.
2. Any Forum or Thread with a
icon to the left of it contains new posts in it - or posts you have not yet marked as read.
3. When you view a Thread, the
icon will also show up next to the new posts.
Marking them As Read
1. When you have finished reading the new posts and threads in a given forum, you can mark the forum read by clicking on the link called "Mark Forum Read" in the header at the top of the forum page. This will remove the "new" icon from the forum list, marking the forum as read, until such time as there are new posts.
2. You can also mark all the forums as read, by clicking on the link called, "Mark all Forums read" on the main page which lists all the forums.
Suggestion: A new user to the board may want to Mark all Forums as Read as ALL of the messages will be marked new to you at that time, even stuff from 2 years ago! You may want to mark everything read so that you can distinguish between what is actually new activity on the board - as it is posted - and then simply read through any threads that interest you in the meanwhile in order to catch up or get a feel for the place. The newest threads in any given forum will be at the top of the list.
Can I do a Search on the Message Board?
You can search for topics and key words or posts by a specific user by clicking on "Search" at the top of the main page. You can specify where to search and how. In my experience, this search feature doesn't work so well most of the time.
How do I quote from someone else's post?
1. Click the reply button to the left of a person's post, just under the Author's name.
2. You will now be able to write your own post.
3. Scroll down below the area where you are to type your post and you will see the post you are replying to.
4. Copy and Paste any text you wish to quote from into your own post.
5. Once you have pasted the quoted text into your post, highlight the quoted text and then click the "quote" button to the left of your post.
You will now see "quote" ezcodes surrounding your quoted text. When you post your message, the quoted text will appear like this:
I made a mistake in my post, how do I correct it?
You can edit your own posts by clicking the "edit" link to the left of your own post. If you need me to delete a post just let me know.
Is there a Spell Checking option?
There is a spell checker on ezboard. It works, most of the time.
Take advantage of it. The spell check button is just below the window you are posting in, and is right next to the Add Post button. The spell check will also allow you to add words to that it does not currently recognize, such as "Ether" and "Abinadi."
Note: The Spell Checker does not appear to opperate very well with some Browsers, or certain versions of Browsers. Be sure to update your Browser. For example: It doesn't seem to work at all with Mozilla Firefox, which is what I use, so I use MS Word to spellcheck my posts, when I bother to use it. (sorry)
I want to view the thread of the posts, and be able to view individual posts in the thread, sorted according to what posts are a reply to which posts, rather than having to view and scroll through all the posts in chronological order.
At the top of any forum you will see right next to the "New Topic" link, a link that says either "Expand" or "Collapse" depending on what mode you are in.
1. Click "Expand" to see the message threads.
2. Also, once you click on a thread and go into it, you will see at the top another command, either " View posts individually" or " View all replies at once" depending on what mode you are in.
3. Click " View posts individually" and it will further break down posts individually.
Play with it...
that's it for now.
