I believe it is our insecurities and doubts which cause us to try to fill what we perceive to be empty spaces. And this does have a negative impact on meetings. But there are other hindrances I would point to a well. One of those is tradition, and lack of understanding regarding who is allowed to do what. We have often snuffed out a move of the Spirit because we insist that only Priesthood can do the things that Jesus himself said all those who believe on Him and get baptized can do.

Your meetings sound very spiritual. That's wonderful.
Maybe it is just the waiting on the moving of the spirit, that has hampered so many of the home meeting that I have expierenced.
When we think that every moment must be filled with some kind of teaching, it leaves little room for reflection, and expectation.
It would be nice for a few who are having such good meetings, to post a little bit on them once in a while.

louise

Thankfully, I can report that in the 2 home groups I have been participating in we have seen the gifts in use in a more substantial way... some deliverance,
some healing, prophetic, word of knowledge, wisdom, etc.

Less teaching...more doing.

Also, thankfully, I can report that there isn't any one person really in charge in the traditional sense. Usually we have someone sort of presiding a bit,
but it is the kind of presiding that simply tries to create an environment where no one man is controlling the course of events, but that is condusive to
letting the Spirit direct, and move upon various individuals.

This means you have to be willing to endure uncomfortable silences sometimes, and resist the temptation to "fill the void" because of insecurities
that nothing exciting enough will happen. We have to get out of our minds the concept that this is a show, we don't need to entertain. Everyone needs to be
seeking out God, and His Spirit,...

Our first expierence with home meetings was in the late 70's. Such fond memories.
And then too much of man got mixed in with it and so we left.
Later went to other home meetings and did meet so many nice, caring people. All wanting what they had not found in a regular church setting.
Guess about five diffrent home church type of bible study meetings in all.
None were what we would know as restoration gospel groups.
Now I do believe that again there is going to be another upsurge of home meetings for like minded believers.
I have been reading on the web about this.
It is interesting how they are diffrent settings, yet some just like a church, only fewer people.
What I mean is just one man leads or teaches. The rest take notes and not much conversation one way or another.
I do like the small number, so everyone can get to know each other. Usually a supper or something follows.
Don't see much of the supernatural, and yet a lot...

We have been meeting in homes with two different groups, one on Saturday evening, and another on Sunday evening. I highly recommend people join up with a small
group that meets in a home (at least as a suppliment to regular Church gatherings), or start a meeting in your own home and invite others. It's best if the
group doesn't get too big. Maybe 12-15 people. It can be a study group, a worship group, or some combination.

The BOM says that the people of the Church met together often to discuss the welfare of their souls. There is much more intimacy in smaller groups, and it
often becomes easier to let down your guard in a smaller group as you get to know each other. This allows us to share our struggles, confess our sins to one
another, and ask for special prayers.

It is important to develop closer relationships than just seeing someone once a week at a formal church meeting. This last weekend, our Saturday night group
got together for a day trip and...

They have what they call "Life Groups" at the church I currently attend. We(4-10 couples) get together every other week for a lesson/discussion about
different topics. This past 6 weeks we have been studying fruits of the spirit. It is a lot of fun to get together with others and talk about God and the
scriptures- there is always new insight for me when others share thier thoughts and feelings on each subject and I am learning to speak up and share my own
thoughts and feelings.
I haven't been able to attend too often this go round- there was one in the Spring I went to and really enjoyed- but hopefully will be able to get back
into the swing of things once the baby is born.

We aren't presently. But when I was a kid my Dad, a Lutheran minister, got fed up with the politics of the Lutheran church and began a home ministry with
another Lutheran minister. We met in different people's homes each week and shared in a meal after service. It was very cool. You really felt like a family
in that situation. I wouldn't mind being involved in something like that again.
